Connecting Saras iQ with Claude: Setup & Usage Guide
This guide covers: Connecting your Saras iQ account to Claude and understanding how to use iQ MCP within Claude
iQ MCP acts as a governed data access layer between Claude and your production data.
It enables Claude to securely access your AI-ready datasets through iQ, with iQ serving as the semantic and governance layer.
- Single Source of Truth: Eliminates inconsistencies by ensuring all data is sourced from iQ
- Governed Logic: All queries adhere to predefined business logic and standardized metrics
-
Trusted Outputs: Claude generates insights, reports, and dashboards using reliable, production-grade data in real time
Prerequisites
Before getting started, ensure the following:
- Your company has an active Saras iQ account and you have access as a user
- If you're on a Claude Teams or Enterprise plan, ensure the iQ MCP connector has been added as a custom connector by your Claude admin. Share this guide with your admin to complete the setup

-
Select “Always allow” to avoid repeated prompts

-
Select “Always allow” to avoid repeated prompts
-
If multiple MCP connectors are enabled, Claude may ask you to choose one
- Select iQ MCP
Best Practices
1. If multiple data connectors are enabled, explicitly mention iQ in your prompt to ensure the correct source is used
2. Validate outputs by asking follow-up questions like"Audit the dashboard against the response you got from iQ" , especially when Claude generates dashboards or summaries. To ensure Claude doesn't fabricate any numbers.
3. Use CoWork (on Claude Desktop) for complex tasks like building reports or dashboards
How iQ MCP Works
iQ MCP provides Claude with access to four specialized tools, each designed to handle different types of data queries and context retrieval.
When you ask a question in Claude, it intelligently selects the most appropriate tool based on your query to generate the best possible answer.

For Example
- Claude may first use the Business Logic Tool to understand your metrics, definitions, and data structure
- It then uses this context to construct the right queries for iQ
- Finally, it retrieves and presents accurate, contextualized insights

The Business Logic Tool is typically invoked for more complex queries, where Claude needs a deeper understanding of your business definitions before querying the data.
