Overview

If observing delayed data across multiple Amazon Selling Partner (SP-API) reports. This is caused by Amazon’s reporting system taking longer than usual to process and complete report generation. As a result, many reports remain in the IN_QUEUE state for extended periods.

This behavior is fully controlled by Amazon. Daton can only fetch data once Amazon marks a report as DONE and makes the file available.

Understanding IN_QUEUE

What does IN_QUEUE mean?

A report in IN_QUEUE means:
Amazon has accepted the request, but has not started processing the report yet.

Why does this happen?

Typical reasons Amazon reports get stuck in IN_QUEUE:
  1. Amazon internal delays (high traffic, peak season load, backend issues).
  2. Multiple apps/tools processing the same report, causing long queues.
  3. Large historical ranges that take more time to process.
  4. Sequential processing rules, Amazon processes one report at a time per report type.
  5. Heavy load where report delays of several hours or days are common.

What Daton does while a report is IN_QUEUE

  • Daton periodically checks whether Amazon has completed the report.
  • These checks do not affect or slow anything down.
  • Daton fetches the file immediately when Amazon marks it as DONE.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Is this an issue on Daton’s side?

No. When a report is in IN_QUEUE, Daton cannot fetch anything because Amazon has not produced the file yet. The delay is coming from Amazon’s processing.

2. Why are we missing hours or days of data?

Because Amazon has not yet generated the corresponding report files.
Daton loads data as soon as Amazon makes it available, but cannot generate or influence Amazon’s files.

3. Can Daton speed up or force Amazon to finish the reports?

Unfortunately, no.
Only Amazon can move a report from IN_QUEUE → DONE.
You should escalate this with Amazon Support.

4. Can we trigger a backfill to recover missing data?

Daton can perform a backfill only after Amazon releases the report.
If the report is stuck in IN_QUEUE, even a rollback will not help until Amazon completes the previous file.

5. Why do we sometimes see many reports queued?

Because:
  • A seller may have other tools/apps requesting the same report,
  • Manual downloads from Seller Central can generate additional jobs,
  • Or Amazon is under heavy load and is slow to clear the queue.
All of these contribute to longer wait times.

6. What can we do on our side?

Recommended steps:
  1. Check if any other 3rd-party apps are requesting the same report. If yes, pause or unauthorize them temporarily.
  2. Raise a ticket with Amazon Support.
  3. Avoid manually triggering the same report from Seller Central, it adds more items to the queue.

7. Does Daton retry too often? Will that hit rate limits?

No. Daton's retry checks are lightweight and do not contribute to rate limiting.

8. Can Daton cancel reports stuck in IN_QUEUE?

Yes, Daton can cancel submitted reports. However:
  • If another app keeps submitting, the queue will refill.
  • After cancellation, Amazon may take several hours to generate a fresh report.
Because of this, cancellation is only recommended after Amazon confirms the root cause.

9. Is this affecting only our account or many sellers?

We will be seeing similar delays across multiple customers.
This indicates a broader slowdown, especially common during high-volume periods.

10. When will this be resolved?

We rely on Amazon to clear the queue and complete report processing.
You should be in active communication with Amazon Support and share updates across as soon as they respond.

Summary

  • Reports are stuck in IN_QUEUE due to Amazon’s internal processing delays.
  • Daton is functioning correctly and will immediately ingest data once Amazon makes the report available.
  • The issue is Amazon-side, might affecting multiple sellers.
  • You should escalate the matter with Amazon Support and continue monitoring closely.
